Ethionamide is used to treat tuberculosis (TB). Ethionamide is an antibiotic. It prevents the growth of bacteria in your body.
This drug Ethionamide belongs to the group of antimicrobial drugs that affect mycobacteria and are used in pulmonology in the treatment of tuberculosis.
The effect of the drug is explained by the characteristics of its main active substance. The main active component is Ethionamide.

It is less effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis pathogens than isoniazid. However, the effect of Ethionamide can also affect such strains to which isoniazid is not active.
The property to fight mycobacteria is explained by the mechanism of action of Ethionamide, namely, its ability to block the synthesis of mycolic acid, which is part of pathogenic bacterial cells.
