Cefadroxil: composition, indications, dosage, side effects
This is an antibiotic - cephalosporin of the first generation. Active ingredient: Cefadroxil. It acts bactericidal (kills bacteria), which is due to the ability to inhibit the production of components of cell membranes. Cefadroxil is active against most Gram (+) and Gram (-) microorganisms.
Cefadroxil is an antibacterial agent that demonstrates high efficacy against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. It is used in the treatment of Klebsiella, proteus and Escherichia coli, but it does not have a negative effect on the development of enterobacteria and enterococci. The drug has a bactericidal effect, by disrupting the synthesis of peptidoglycan in the cell wall. After entering the digestive tract, it is quickly absorbed into the general bloodstream. The substance penetrates into all fluids and organs with the exception of brain tissue and cerebrospinal fluid.
It is used in the treatment of infectious diseases of soft tissues and skin, infectious lesions of the genitourinary and respiratory systems, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, osteomyelitis and septic arthritis.
Indications
Cefadroxil is prescribed:
- For respiratory tract infections;
- For infections of the ENT organs;
- For infections of the kidneys, urinary tract;
- For infections of the genitals;
- For skin infections;
- For soft tissue infections;
- For infections of the abdominal organs;
- For infections of the joints, bones;
- For wound infections.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Cefadroxil or other cephalosporins, severe allergic reactions to penicillin, as well as other beta-lactams in the anamnesis, pregnancy, age below the sixth flight and breast-feeding.
Cefadroxil should not be used:
- If you are allergic to cephalosporins (if you are allergic to penicillins, it is important to consider the possibility of a cross-reaction);
- With kidney failure (in children).
Use during pregnancy and lactation
This medicine is able to penetrate the placental barrier, so it is not used in pregnant women.
The active substance of this drug in low concentrations is excreted in breast milk, so breast-feeding is stopped during treatment.
Method of administration and dosage
Cefadroxil is used orally.
The dosage depends on the causative agent of the infection, the severity of the clinical condition.
Standard doses: adults, children from 12 years – 1000 mg (corresponds to 20 ml of suspension 250 mg/5 ml or 10 ml of suspension 500 mg/5 ml) 2 times / day. If necessary, it is allowed to increase the dose to 3000-4000 mg / day.
Children weighing up to 40 kg are shown 25 –50–100 mg / kg / day.
For pharyngitis / tonsillitis, persons over 12 years of age are recommended 1000 mg (corresponding to 20 ml of suspension 250 mg/5 ml or 10 ml of suspension 500 mg/5 ml) 1 time/day. Children weighing up to 40 kg are shown 30 mg/kg / day.
In case of impaired renal function, the dose is selected based on the creatinine clearance index.
